City Ministries’ Mission To partner western volunteers and Nigerians in a variety of programs to reach Nigeria's most challenged communities, especially orphans and needy children, widows and unreached people groups. About City Ministries This year City Ministries will serve approximately 500,000 meals to those in need. Some 400 orphans and needy kids located in the city of Jos and eight communities throughout Nigeria will be assisted by our efforts. Thousands more receive water, electricity, literacy training, clothing, food, vocational training, medicine, and school fees—and still more receive prosthetics, canes and wheelchairs. We also support an evangelistic film ministry whereby tens of thousands receive exposure to the gospel. As needs are met and bridges are built through our various ministries, we constantly try to demonstrate and extend the love of Christ and to help people come to a saving knowledge and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. 2008 marks our 12th year of work in Nigeria. City Ministries brings together more than 250 Nigerian staff and volunteers, including over 20 westerners, to serve the needs of Nigeria's most challenged people groups. Our missionaries work with church representatives to help facilitate partnerships and maintain accountability and progress. Nigeria Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa with some 140 million people, including approximately 50 million Muslims and 150 unreached people groups! Thousands die every day without Christ. Over half the population lives in cities. By 2010 it is estimated there will be 16-18 million orphans in Nigeria, largely due to the AIDS pandemic. 2008 web hits: 6,000+ |
